PSHE - collaboration challenge

Today in PSHE we explored collaborative working. The children sorted themselves into groups through a mimicking game and then were faced with a challenge. They had to make the tallest tower possible using only 6 sheets of paper and a roll of sellotape!

The teams collaborated really well and created some very tall towers indeed!

In the end this team's tower won as it was sturdy and tall.

Enterprise in Class 5

Class 5 have been working on a property development project for the past 2 weeks in preparation for an Enterprise Day where they would be working closely with Charlotte Molyneux from Education Business Partnership South West and Martin Cavanna from Cavanna Homes.
This Wednesday the enterprise day took place. The children worked collaboratively to solve many challenges and meet tight deadlines. The day was a great success and all of the children had a valuable learning experience. We would like to thank Charlotte and Martin for the day and also Gillian Gray and Mr Jeffs (both STEM ambassadors) who joined the judging panel.

The judges were very impressed with the children's presentations. In the end, two teams of girls won joint first prize! Well done year 5 for all your great work.

Fraction frenzy!

Today Year 5 learned about fractions using Cuisenaire rods to deepen their understanding of the concept of 'What is a fraction?'

Everyone worked so well that they deserved a play at the end!

Class 5's trip to a coding workshop at Shebbear College

Class 5 children had a great day today at a coding workshop hosted by Shebbear College. They programmed a micro:bit to play Rock, Paper, Scissors with them....

They had a guided lesson by the Head of Computing using Minecraft educational software where they had to complete tasks working as a team...

Finally they learned about algorithms through a murder mystery drama activity...

A big thank you to the staff and students at Shebbear College for a fantastic day of learning.
