Here are some posters of the children's knowledge about 'Pancake Day' before and after the day.

Today Year 5 and Year 1 teamed up to learn all about Shrove Tuesday and to cook some yummy pancakes. The children carried out three different activities across the day. They did some weighing and measuring while mixing and cooking the pancakes; they sequenced the instructions for making pancakes using imperative verbs to write the instructions and finally, they learned about the religious significance of the Christian festivals of Shrove Tuesday and Lent, as well as learning about the origins of some rather wacky traditions that have developed over the centuries surrounding 'Pancake Day' in the UK and around the world.

As part of their RE learning about the big question: Creation & Science: Conflicting or Complimentary? Class 5 have been discussing Chistian beliefs and giving reasons for their decisions about where to place statements on a continuum line. Great learning, great discussions, great collaboration. Well done year 5.

Classes 5 & 6 joined forces on Thursday to take part in the STEM Primary challenge with North Devon Plus. Everyone had a great (but messy) time! The rules were that the children had to build a tower using only spaghetti and marshmallows. The completed tower had to hold an egg within the top ten centimetres for as long as possible.
First came imagining and planning.
Lots of teamwork and discussion were necessary.
Everyone had a job to do.
All the children had great fun.
It was a very sticky business.
Time to measure and test.
Surprisingly this amazing and sturdy design didn't hold the egg securely.
Whereas the design that had collapsed moments before the testing and was 'smooched' together at the last minute, held the egg for ages!
I'm not sure whether the egg was balanced or just fell very slowly here!?!
This wacky design which made use of 'marshmallow glue' was the winner with one egg.

Today Class 5 were set a challenge by Mr Patt - our volunteer teacher. He set the challenge of making a labyrinth from a cereal box, just like in Theseus and the Minotaur.
The children designed their labyrinths and held a problem solving session before beginning the construction. During construction, the children faced many problems which they solved through collaboration and sheer perseverance!
